Imam Khomeini Port
Imam Khomeini Port organizes almost half of the country's non-oil shipment and,
therefore, is the most important commercial terminal of the country. The port
was exploited in 1938 with two decks. The port has now more than 37 decks with
overall length of 7 km and hundred of ocean ships use it for mooring in each
year. In harmony with modernization of the state transportation, the port has
been equipped with equipped terminals. Out of which, we can point out the
followings: container terminal, Alumina terminal, cereal terminal and transit
warehouse, general and miscellaneous goods terminal, minerals terminal, and oil
terminal and tanks. With the most modern port and navigation equipment and
facilities, and their organization in both offshore and onshore fleet, Imam
Khomeini Port offers the most complete port complex to the goods owners. One of
the unique features of the port is that it has 100 km specific railroad
surrounding the jetties, decks and warehouses and this has made possible direct
goods transit between the port and the most important industrial and commercial
centers of the country and also neighboring countries. Considering its situation
in north-south and east-west corridor, the port has a unique situation in the
region and in the world and has its special importance. The self-administration
strategy of the zone is: customer-oriented service provision.
Zonal Development Policies:
Promotion of knowledge and efficiency of the officials in line with realization
and implementation of the zonal development plans. Taking steps towards
establishment of the appropriate commercial and trading infrastructures in
harmony with the regional capacity and in relation to the port and industries
(Bandar Imam, Petrochemical Special Zone, basic industries like Karoon Steel,
etc.). Implementation of the required policies and strategies for promotion of
sea and port activities of Khuzestan Department General.

Seeking the ways for decreasing the number of debtors and their debts.
Completion and put in use the 5-hectare site.
Completion and put in use the 10-hectare site.
Completion and put in use the administrative and commercial land in Bandar Imam Khomeini
City.
Making final decision on shipbuilding yard.
Promotion of quality of technical services.
Monitoring the spare supplying sources merely from the point of view of technical and
specialty.
Making the needed policies and decisions aiming employers' satisfaction.
Promotion of goods discharge norm broken down into the kind of goods imported to the port.
Economic Data of the Port:
With 11 million m2 area, Imam Khomeini Port is one of the largest and most
important ports of the country. About half of non-oil exportation of the country
is organized in this port. With its unique geographic and economic situation and
70 years of service background, Imam Khomeini Port has become one of the
most important commercial and portal centers in the west of the country in which
almost 70% of industrial, commercial, agricultural centers and population of the
country have been located. Its vicinity to the most important petrochemical
special zone and other basic industries in Khuzestan province has placed in a
unique situation.
Geographic Data of the Port:
The port is located in northwest of Persian Gulf in a natural channel named
Khoor Moosa, with 100 km distance from the province center. The channel with 42
miles length, minimum width of 250 m and average depth of 20 m is a calm natural
channel for passing the ocean ships including commercial vessels and tankers. The
geographic situation of the port is as follows: Longitude: 49°, 4' E; Latitude:
30°, 25' N. Its distance to Tehran is 927 km and to Ahwaz (the province center)
is 165 km. The distance between the port and the nearest airport is 25 km and it
is connected to road and rail network by use of the asphalted roads and
railways. The minimum temperature of the port is 6 °C and maximum temperature is
50°C. The minimum and maximum relative humidity is 15 and 99 respectively. The
storage and sites: it has 10,410,000 m2 open yard and 300,000 m2 warehouse
space.

Length of west breakwaters: 2515 m
Length of east breakwaters: 25570
Length of coastal navigation moorage of breakwaters (including main breakwaters,
two small breakwaters and one large breakwater for prevention from settlement):
1733 m; the breakwaters have been constructed with 20 m height above sea water.
The moorage, with 4900 m length, is capable for simultaneous berth of 22
commercial ship plus two ocean tankers.
